Major Window Components
This is a quick article meant to familiarize you with the major components found in most windows.
Window Frame
The main enclosure which holds the sash(es) in place.

Window Head
The horizontal piece at the top of the frame, a component of the frame.

Window Sill
The horizontal piece at the bottom of the frame, a component of the frame.

Window Jamb
The vertical pieces on the left and right of the frame, a component of the frame.

Window Nailing Flange
The flange which surrounds the window, used to hold the window in place, a component of the frame.

Window Muntin Bar
Any horizontal or vertical bar used between two glazings.

Window Glazing
The glass or transparent portion of the window.

Window Sash
An assembly of stiles and rails used to hold a group or single piece of glazing to the frame.
